Student Impact

Champlain builds strong connections and friendships

Champlain provides students like Laila Martinez with hands-on experience, with industry-standard tools and fundamentals to help them put what they learn into practice with real work experience. Through her internships, Laila was able to learn how a business operates in alignment with her field of study.

This past summer, Laila interned at NuHarbor Security, a local cybersecurity consulting firm, as a cybersecurity intern. Laila truly valued the time she was able to spend shadowing each department, learning how professional and client experience builds a business and the value of treating the entire team as individuals.

When she was looking at colleges, Champlain was the only school where she was able to take major-based classes in her first year. This allowed Laila to gain professionally relevant experience early and be sure that this is the type of industry she wants to get into.

“Because of the smaller community at Champlain, I am able to interact with other students and faculty,” explains Laila. “I value meeting new people, getting to know them and their story. It builds a strong connection and friendships that I treasure. It has given me a sense of belonging to the Champlain community.”

Alumni Impact

Champlain empowers students to be “more than”

Meet Megg Daudelin. Megg is a 2012 graduate from the Computer & Digital Forensics BS program and a 2016 graduate of the Digital Forensic Management MS program. Now, more than a decade into her career, she often reflects on how her Champlain experience contributed to where she is today.

While Megg eagerly asserts that she loved her major, she also insists that the true power of her Champlain experience was so much more than just curriculum. From day zero, Megg feels that Champlain empowers students to be “more than” — more than a set of technical skills.

Champlain alums are contributors, collaborators, innovators, and leaders. Megg finds that “we ask the right questions to make sure our team is doing the right things at the right times. In my industry, we are known for being champions of growth and change.”

Currently the Product Enablement Content Manager for runZero, a cybersecurity startup, Megg’s career has taken her many places. She even returned to Champlain College as an adjunct professor!

According to Megg, having Champlain College on her résumé has opened many doors. Countless recruiters and hiring managers have told her how much they love Champlain grads, because they can “trust not only their skill, but also their integrity.”

Community Impact

From interns to employees

NuHarbor Security, a Colchester-based cybersecurity company, and Champlain College share a pretty vital resource — Champlain College alumni. They make up 52% of NuHarbor’s workforce, including five graduates from the Class of 2022.

Working together, Champlain and NuHarbor are focused on continued partner growth, in the form of curriculum collaboration and adjunct support, among other aspects. This collaboration allows employers to further influence Champlain’s workforce preparation and, in turn, maintain Champlain’s robust pipeline of talented student recruits.

This partnership is also helping students before they graduate. Computer & Digital Forensics major Laila Martinez ‘25 interned at the Leahy Center for Digital Forensics & Cybersecurity as a Security Intern in her first semester.

The following summer, this hands-on experience led to a cybersecurity internship at NuHarbor Security. This fall, she shifted into the role of Information Assurance Intern and works directly with the Champlain alumni, who make up more than half of NuHarbor’s workforce.

A partnership like NuHarbor is an invaluable resource for the College, its students, and its commitment to helping Vermont thrive.
